Is it safe to wear your jewelry in Phuket?

My wife and I have lived in Phuket for many years and she has always worn her jewelry outdoors without any problems. However if you are walking down the street with a very big gold chain around your neck and are at the wrong place in the wrong time then there is a chance that someone will snatch the golf chain. So a ring and earrings is fine and perhaps even a small necklace however I would advice walking around with any large or flashy jewelry in Phuket.
