There is not really an expats club in Phuket. There has been talk about it for some years and it was even one of the reasons why the Korat Farang forum was started by some members of Thai Visa who were living in the Korat area. Unfortunately it never got of the ground but the Korat Farang forum is still a popular forum among many expats living in Korat.

There is a monthly meeting at Chez Andy restaurant which is located close to the Korat Night Bazaar and some people call it an expats club but it is attended mainly by German speaking expats from Korat. However you are more than welcome to go to the meeting even if you don't speak German.

The Korat expat community is a rather strange one and there certainly seems to be a lot more bickering among Korat expats then what you would find in other cities.

I recently  moved to the Korat area and looked for an expats club , the best thing I found for
local information was at the expat koratfarang.com web site , lots of good local information and
some good humor from a guy called mypenry on buying and building a house . well worth a look
if you are thinking of settling in the Korat area
koratfarang.com is now closed. The forum Korat-farang.com is now the best choice for local information.

Please don't give up looking for friends in Korat. The fighting on the forum you mentioned is in no way representative for foreigners in Korat. No matter how loud the people there tell you they were the only ones to be trusted.

There are lots of internet forums where you can find peace-loving foreigners in Korat. Try the forum http://www.korat-info.com (german, english, dutch) or http://www.koratfart.com, like http://www.grumpyexpat.com/forum/, a local forum in english only. That's where you can find contacts you won't find at the other forum.

There are also a couple of restaurants where different groups are meeting. Try to find out over the forums mentioned.

There are many expats in Korat and both the city and province are large so expats tend to do their own thing with their friends. There are bars and restaurants where expats meet up but not in a formal way.  Some expats even meet at the shopping Mall. There are several forums catering to the expat community in and around Korat. One is almost impossible to join, the others are much easier. Check them out to see which one suits you. The friendliest and liveliest expat forum at the moment is Korat-Farang.com/forum

It's easy to join. You will make friends quickly there.

korat-farang is not the friendliest or liveliest forum. It's run by a control freak and it is certainly not easy to join. If you post on other korat forums he will ban you. If you use a proxy, he will ban you. He decides *(if he knows the applicant in real life) what he feels is best for the community.  The admin goes by the name of Alfie, a teacher at rajapad university. The people on that forum can be pretty vicious and nasty, especially if you advertise a new business. The admin also enjoys playing several nicks on the forum in order to try an up his ratings. It doesn't work, but he tries hard.  Personally, I believe he is missing a few screws in the head.  Perhaps all the years of living in Thailand and exposure to the heat. The lowest of the lowest are on that forum, weirdos, pedophiles, drunks, you name it, they are there, and you can always find them at places like the sports bar, george and dragon, the walrus, the ram, always drunk, some doing drugs in the back of the parking lot
