Has anyone here been to the Sun Island Resort on the Maldives yet?

I would love to hear back from travellers who have been there already. What were your impressions? Were you satisfied with the Sun Island Resort? Would you go there again?

Thanks for your input and reviews on the Sun Island Resort in the Maldives!

I have actually been to the Sun Island Resort on the Maldives earlier this year on my honeymoon. It was a wedding present of my parents and it certainly was a great present. We had an amazing time at the Sun Island Resort and it was the nicest resort which either one of us ever stayed at. The Maldives Sun Island Resort is a very large island resort which has around 400 rooms, suites and villas available to its guests. The transfer visa speedboat from the airport to the Sun Island Resort took around 3 hours if I remember correctly.

We stayed in one of the water bungalows at this luxurious and very popular Maldives resort and the accommodation was simply stunning. We had the all inclusive package and I would definitely suggest that you book it as well as it will end up saving you lots of money as especially alcoholic beverages are rather pricey in the resort bars and restaurants.

My husband and me spent a lovely 14 days at the Sun Island Resort on the Maldives. It was our honeymoon and we had the time of our lives. Our accomodation was a water bungalow and the views were just spectacular. The private sun deck is priceless and seeing the sun rise or set is the experience of a lifetime. All in all, we were overwhelmed and totally enjoyed our stay.

One of the things I strongly recommend is the bike hire.

The beaches are to die for and absolutely worth every single cent. I cannot stress the importance of friendly staff whilst on vacation enough. On the maldives, they treat you like a king. Although spending your vacation on the Maldives is a very expensive treat, we will surely return as our stay at the Sun Island Resort gave us the peace of mind we were looking for.

We had planned this trip to the Sun Island for months but did not get off to the best of starts at the Manchester airport where we found that our seats had been double booked but somehow we managed to get seats together for ourselves and our 22 month old daughter. The journey was more or less comfortable and we landed at Male on time. From there, we were transferred to a sea plane which took us to the beautiful little island. The service was fantastic and we got a very warm welcome when we got there. The island itself was very beautiful and we knew instantly that our holiday would be heavenly.

The staff from the hotel met us at the pier with cold drinks as they took our luggage to our room. Our room was upgraded to the super deluxe one as we wanted to be on the calmer side of the island and if you also feel so, it is highly recommended that you do it. The accommodation was very beautiful; the bungalow was facing the beach and the 4-star service was also made pleasant by the ever smiling staffs. The food at the main restaurant was very good and you will be given plenty of options to choose from. You can even order pizza back to your room.

Not many people go over to the Sun Island with their kids and we were among a very small number of people to do so. The island has a small hospital also and it also keeps a huge stack of ‘Huggies’ nappy pads. Swimming in the calm and quiet water was a very special experience indeed but be careful of the baby sharks and the sting rays that also swim in that part of the sea.

The island is very tiny but you can get bikes for hire to tour the island or even get the hotel to get you on a guided tour of the island on a golf cart.

I must say that we had a lovely time in the island and our two weeks there was bliss. But if you plan on going there, then two weeks is just about fine.

Sun Island is one of the most beautiful places that I have ever seen and the experience that I got while snorkeling was also wonderful. The diving was also one of the best parts of that experience. We were staying in a water bungalow in the resort, which really is fantastic because you can make it your base while you go out for sessions of snorkeling all around the little island.

The dive center was also brilliant and the staff over there was also very good with the right equipments and training and all that is necessary.
However, coming to the other facilities that are provided by the hotel and how they view the all inclusive package, I can say that it really is very complex and not good at all. It seems that they only are interested in getting you to shell out the last dollar from your pocket as well. Even if you have the all inclusive package deal, you need to be very careful because you very easily make up bills that are very steep unless you are careful with the amenities that you are using. You will be required to sign for everything that you order, a food or drink and signing all the time after an order arrives can be very irritating. You might even get stuck with a waiter that will be assigned with you for the whole time that you stay there.

The hotel also makes the decision on when you will be getting off the island and they shut down all the facilities a few hours before that specified time. So, if you feel hungry after you have paid all the bills, you won’t be able to buy anything as the island does not value currency notes. Another thing that I did not like is the fact that the atmosphere in the hotel is very eerie, just like a funeral and unless you can tip the staff generously, you will not even get a smile, let alone decent service.

To conclude, if you are only interested in the snorkeling and diving part, the Sun Island is the place to be then but if you are looking for something extra, then I would recommend someplace else.

The Sun Island resort was one of the best hotels that we have stayed in, with plenty of amenities and facilities that were included. The rooms  were very big and one thing in particular was that they were very neat and clean, thanks to the daily cleaning by the staffs and this cleaning is done twice a day. During these sessions, we were given fresh towels and new bed sheets as well as two new bottles of mineral water.

The food was also very delicious and there was a vast selection of dishes to choose from. The best things to try in the morning for breakfast are the omelets and in the evening, try the fried fishes that are freshly caught. Two free excursions are added if you are on the all inclusive package and you should take advantage of it by going for the sunset fishing and even try the barbeque session with the fishes that you catch.

The staffs are the friendliest people that I have ever seen in my life, always eager and ready to help you. If it gets too warm for your taste, then go for a dive in the swimming pool or even the sea; however, keep an eye open for the sting rays and baby sharks that swim near the shore.

We also for a snorkeling session and then for the manta ray excursion and it was breath taking. You can get transferred to the island from the main airport by sea plane as this is a beautiful and more practical experience.

Moreover, you can even hire bikes to travel around the island for only $ 3 a day.

The only flaw that we found with the facilities is that even if you are on the all inclusive package, you will still be made to sign for whatever you have to drink or eat and things like that. However, the staff said that this was a step taken for some tax benefits, so I guess it is understandable.

I had gone there with my partner and found it to be a very lovely place, and I’m sure you’ll also love it.

We were looking for a place to go for our honeymoon when someone suggested the Maldives and the Sun Island Resort. So, we jumped on to the idea and landed in the Maldives in December, 2007 with my husband with the hope of spending some quality time with each other.

To say that the place was as close to paradise that we will ever get to be is an understatement. Although the weather played spoilsport to some extent as there was heavy rainfall, along with strong winds and storm clouds (something that cannot obviously be predicted all the time with perfection), it could not, however, take away from the magical brilliance of the place.
Being a huge foodie, the all inclusive food at the main restaurant at the resort was a disappointment, I must say. The buffet system had foods that not many English people would like. I had to struggle a lot to choose the food to eat during our two week stay at the resort. The other restaurants there were also a bit too pricey ad the things from the mini bar also did not come for free.

The service from the waiters, beach boys and even the room boys were excellent, however, and the more tips you pay them, the better would be the service provided to you. We had a very good time over there, but if you are planning to go there, do check on the weather and the perfect time to visit would be the dry season and you will be able to enjoy well.

My boyfriend gave me the surprise of my life by taking me off to Sun Island Resort in the Maldives to celebrate my 21st birthday and we had a blast over there.

I had been to the Maldives before and I must say that I was a bit skeptical about what to expect from this tiny island resort but once I saw the island from the speedboat, nearing the end of a grueling 3 hour journey, I knew that I would not be disappointed.

We put up in a deluxe room and it was facing the sea, but I was disappointed by the rooms because during my previous visit, we had put up in a standard room and it was more deluxe that this. The beautiful beaches of this island are very romantic and I and my boyfriend used to spend at least an hour every day, walking on the beach, holding hands and it was very romantic.
The snorkeling was a bit disappointing for me but the sharks and the sting rays made up for it a lot, to say the very least. If you are going to the island, then you just cannot miss the sting ray feeding as it is an experience from outside this world and I’m sure you will love it.

During our stay there, my boyfriend and I spent a lot of time in the spa and the massage parlors where the staff spoiled us completely with some brilliant massages, creating the most perfect and romantic mood ever. We could relax and spend time with each other and it was really loads of fun.

The Italian restaurant near the pier serves delicious food and you can also get a 20% discount if you have an all inclusive package. The food at the main restaurant is also brilliant.

The reef exploring trip was also one experience to savor, and we got to see a huge variety of rare and beautiful fishes.

The paved paths took away some of the beauty from the island because I prefer them to be kept natural as in the other islands, where you have to walk on the sand. Remember, if you are planning to go there, it is wise that you take the sea plane instead of the speed boat, however, the beauty that you see all around while riding on the boat is also worth the grueling ride.
So, if you plan a holiday in the Maldives, then the Sun Island Resort is one place that I recommend.

I visited this place with my family and believe you me, this place is totally amazing. It is a must that when you go over there, you have to give the massage therapy a try. It can be a bit expensive for some but it will be worth every penny that you pay for it and you will feel as if you are in paradise. The friendly staffs always have a smile on their faces, which is very pleasant and they work very hard to keep the bungalows very neat and tidy.

The food had a lot of variety and it was wonderful. The entertainment department lacks a bit on Sun Island but you do not go to small Tropical Island to indulge, you go there to relax and this place is just perfect for it. The taxi service, which basically are the golf carts come to pick you up from your doorstep within minutes of calling for one.

Make sure that you try the diving. The instructors are very well versed in English and they make sure that you get see a lot of the marine life, including some very rare turtles.

It was the best holiday that I have ever had in my life and I really wish that I could go back again. If you enjoy some quality time of peace and quiet, then is the place that you need to be in.

One of the largest and most beautiful resorts in the Maldives is the Sun Island Resort.
As soon as you land on the island and see the views around you, you will feel that you have been escorted to paradise whose existence now you cannot doubt. The water is crystal clear; the beach is covered by soft and white sand, and the light rays of the sun are a feast for everyone.

If you like to remain active, even during your holidays, then this is the place for you to be, with some activity or the other going on at all times. The resort has its very own diving center, an extensive tennis court, gym as well as volleyball courts and an area for water sports. You can go for fishing trips or boating trips to the other islands too and the resort will provide you with a guide.

The service that is provided is brilliant to say the least. The staffs always have a smile on their faces, they are very swift and prompt and they work really hard to maintain the huge area properly. The food is also excellent and there is a huge variety to choose from.

We were staying in a water bungalow and although it does not come cheap, it was our honeymoon and so, it was worth it. You can get out of these bungalows and enter the seas through your very own private steps and this exclusivity is something that I loved. You can even go snorkeling which is a beautiful experience with so many colorful fishes swimming around you.

If you are looking for an exotic holiday destination, then this is the spot for you.

We arrived in the Sun Islands for two weeks after three grueling plane rides as well as the sea plane ride that took us from the main airport in Male to the island and to say that the island is just gorgeous would be an understatement.

Of course we were all too tired, and wanted to get into the room to freshen up. We had taken a deluxe room which was the cheapest option that was available but it was not too bad and we were all quite happy with it. The décor of the room was very poor but it was really spacious and the bathroom was also big and spotlessly clean. We also had an outdoor shower for some added fun.

The only disappointment was that when we woke up and looked at the beach, we saw that it was very bad, the view as well as the beach. If you are planning a stay at the Sun Island Resort, you should give the deluxe rooms a pass and try to get the rooms that are numbered between 120 and 180 and the views from here are breathtaking to say the least.

We also felt that the staying in the water bungalows would not be a good option as these were very far away from the beach and moreover, there are plenty of sting rays in the lagoon, meaning that no swimming would be possible there.

The foods that were offered in the main restaurant were very good and had a lot of variety to suit all the taste buds from all the different countries. One thing that really disappointed was the dessert. Despite looking very good and appetizing, they were pretty tasteless. However, there is not much variety provided during breakfast other than tea or coffee and if you like hot chocolate or some herbal drinks, and then you will be at a loss. Always keep a close tab on what you take from the mini bar because they charge you for the smallest of things and it’s easy to go overboard with these things. If you do not get the all inclusive package, you will have to dish out $10 a day just to watch the television.

You can use the game rooms for various games such as pool, darts and games like that. In the end, all I can say is that it is not too bad a place to spend your holiday.

If you are looking for some serious time to relax, then the Sun Island Resort is the place for you with its brilliant service, the stunning scenery and exotic ambience. There are plenty of activities going on here that you can indulge yourself into as well.

The accommodation is given either in the bungalows or rooms that face the sea. The restaurant offers a huge variety of foods and is an all you can eat buffet. The Italian and Japanese restaurants are good as well.

The nightlife is not happening but if you go to relax, then it’s probably for the better.

There are plenty of shops in the island. The hotel also gives you some excursions and that too, for free.

It’s a great place to spend your holiday and I would never hesitate if I had the chance to go back.

We had booked our flights to Male with MyTravel in the Premium Gold class but they somehow managed to sell our seats to someone else. The seats that we got in the end were very poor, the amenities that were provided were even worse. It made the whole journey a nightmare and I am seriously considering never to book with MyTravel again in my life.

But the resort that we put up in was brilliant. We were given a water bungalow which is very desirable and quite exclusive. These exclusive bungalows have their very own restaurants. They overlook the beautiful sea and the beach and it is quite a view. The min restaurant, however, is a bit drab for my taste and seems like some mass unit.

The place is very relaxing because there is not much activity going around the island. Moreover, you can lie on the beach without having to bother about anything in the world.

When you travel, be sure to take the sea plane from the main airport as it takes almost 3 hours to reach the resort by speed boat whereas you can cover the same distance by the sea plane in 35 minutes.

The water is beautiful for snorkeling, fishing and swimming in general. Overall, it’s a very good place to holiday in.

If you are looking for the perfect setting and the most beautiful location to spend your holiday, then opt for the Sun Island Resort, with the perfect accommodation for everyone. Sun Island is one of the bigger islands in the chain of islands that constitute the Maldives and the brilliant facilities that are offered make for the perfect holiday, even if you decide not to take part in the various activities in and around the island.

There are a few very good restaurants as well as bars and these are included in the all inclusive package and so you get variety as well as good food at a very subsidized rate. There are various activities going on in the island all the time so the chances of you getting bored are slim to say the least.

The spa provides various amenities and treatments, and the massage is particularly brilliant apart from being relaxing. You can take the boat for a very romantic dinner in the sea, and a chef and waiter will accompany you.

However, the ambience and atmosphere of the main restaurant was a bit lackluster, although the food was brilliant with a huge cache of food, depending on your nationality. The staff was also great, and a good tip would also make their service even better. It is definitely a nice place to holiday, and you should go there at least once.

We could not get married in the Maldives due to some problems and so, we decided to get married in the United Kingdom and renew our wedding vows at the beautiful Sun Island Resort. But if you are making any plans to renew your wedding vows in the Sun island, then you should probably make the booking directly with the resort instead of getting any middleman or travel agent because this will be financially very profitable (because you are cutting down the middleman’s profit and commission), but we did not know that until afterwards and so had to dish out a lot of money.

We had decided to get the transfer from the main airport to Sun Island by a sea plane because it is much more convenient and it takes very little time for all the processes to get over with. Once we arrived on the island, we were greeted by the resort staff with open arms who gave us some cooling cloths so that we could freshen up and a chilled glass of coconut milk at the reception. After the paperwork at the reception was sorted out, we were escorted by a hotel staff to our room on a golf buggy. The deluxe bungalow numbered 397 was given to us and although it was a bit far from the main bar and restaurant, the little walk, rather stroll from our bungalow to the bar and restaurant was very pleasant. The island is very beautiful with well kept and very neat gardens that are regularly tended to by the staff at the hotel. These hotel staff is the best part about the resort, with the best service that money can buy and they always have a smile on their faces, which is always pleasant.

The place is so tidy and neatly kept that it’s a feast for the eyes as well. The staff even keeps the bikes that are parked in the lot in a row. You may keep the bikes anywhere you want but you will find them neatly lined up in order in the mornings after the cleaning is done and in the evenings as well. You can even have a canoe hired that will take you on a guided tour of the island which will hardly take around an hour and a half. You can also walk around the island during the afternoons. It took us two days to complete the tour but it easily be done in one as well.

We used to hire bikes to roam around the island. There are plenty of bikes and hence, no need to be in line and there is no waiting list as well. We got a bit worried about the wedding vows because our representative had no idea about the details of it, but he made contacts with the girl running the guest relations operations and it was due to her skills of management that made us get the date that we wanted and we can’t thank her enough for that.

The day we renewed our wedding vows was really unforgettable, and the memories that we got are something that I and my husband will cherish for the rest of our lives. Our experience also made some of friends do this ritual and get their vows renewed in this very exotic island. The one problem that we had with the arrangements in the hotel was the tea and coffee. Although we had taken some coffee packs with us, we ran out of it after a few days and we had to take some from the mini bar, but the problem was that we had to sign for these every time when the room boy came in and we used to be given only four sachets of coffee a day, and since we used to spend almost the whole day in the beach, these four sachets were just not enough to pass the day. One more thing was that if for any reason we were not in our room when the room boy came, we would not get the coffee sachets for the day.

On the last night of our stay, we had run out of articles in the mini bar and since on the night before check out, the mini bar is closed off at 6pm, we did not have any articles left for us to. Although these were very minor issues, still, if they are resolved, it would be better.

I just feel that the guests that are there on the all inclusive package should be entitled to some free food stuff in the room as well as in the bars and restaurants. In the end, I just want to say is that this is one of the most beautiful places on earth and the perfect place to celebrate something really special.

We got married in Sri Lanka, at the Bentota Beach Hotel and spent the first week of our honeymoon over there and we were in actuality looking forward to spending the next part of our honeymoon in the beautiful Sun Island Resort in the Maldives.
But it started off on a very bad note for us. Firstly, we had to wait at the pier for over three hours for our sea plane to arrive because of some problems on the part of Thomas Cook, and when we finally reached the resort, they told us that all the deluxe rooms had been reserved (and that too, we had made the reservations almost 15 months before). However, the people at the resort understood our position and they were willing to offer us a Garden Villa as well as credit of $ 80 each day in order to make up for their lapse. However, by some sheer stroke of luck, a deluxe room was vacated and hence, we were finally able to get our honeymoon off the mark there.

We reached the deluxe room, only to find that it was a room with two beds and apart from that, the air conditioner was also not working. In order to get this settled, we had to walk for 15 minutes to get to the reception (because obviously the island is quite large). As a result, we were given a new deluxe room the next morning which was much better than the previous one. This room was much bigger and it even had a double bed and what more, it also had a shower on the outside apart from having numerous other amenities.
Another very unpractical thing about the resort was that we always had to wear the wrist band as well as carry the key card every time that we wanted to have a bite or drink. You can easily move about the island by hiring a bike that will cost you only around $ 3 a day. The all inclusive options that we had were very complex to understand and those were not very well explained. We felt that the staff was only friendly when they were entitled to a tip.

We were there on our honeymoon and it’s not wrong to hope that we would be given a basket of delicious fruits and champagne when we arrived. We did, however, get these the day we were supposed to leave. One thing that you should also note is that the hotel will charge you for the tea and coffee from the mini bar as well.

On the other side, you will get a 20% discount in any of the Thai, Italian, Japanese and Chinese restaurants as part of the all inclusive package. The coffee shop also remains open for 24 hours a day and we strongly recommend that you order the double cheese burger as well as some chips along with the coffee and you will not be disappointed.

The coffee shop, however, is not part of the all inclusive package between 4pm and 6pm and this is the time when you will get the sandwiches. The drinks and other things are free or on 20% discount at the other times.

The sea is very beautiful, and you can also go snorkeling. Overall, it is not a bad place for honeymooning.

My husband had booked the Sun Island Resort in the Maldives for our honeymoon and we went there during the early weeks of August, 2007. We were travelling first choice but decided to upgrade to the premier seating because of the arrangements where our luggage get off before us, and that is a very important thing because you would not want to wait for hours for your luggage to arrive after a long flight. I would say that if you opt for the upgrade, you won’t feel so bad because of all the amenities that are provided such as the extra leg space, free drinks and the brilliant service. After landing, all the checking in at the customs and other details were done and dusted with very fast and our luggage had also come up very quickly. A representative directed us to the bus which would take us to the sea plane port and all this transfer was done very quickly and easily. The views that we got from the sea plane were simply amazing, and I still remember them.

The greeting and welcome that we got once we landed at the pier of the resort was simply amazing and keeping in tradition with the Maldives, we were given the ‘cold towel’ treatment, so as to say and were given a chilled glass of coconut milk at the reception. Then we were put on a golf buggy with a staff, who escorted us to our room, and as part of the honeymoon package, we saw a huge basket of fruits and a bottle of expensive wine kept on the bed, which was overwhelming, to say the least. The room was a super deluxe one and it was very beautiful with enormous space and a big bathroom as well.

The 1.5 liter water bottle that was kept in the room was the only part of the all inclusive package that we had and the rest we had to take from the mini bar, which was very expensive to put it gently. The items in the mini bar were huge but the money adds up quickly, and if you are not careful, you will end up with a lot to pay.

The three meals in the day are all served in the main restaurant and you will be assigned a particular waiter who will look after all your needs, and that somehow promotes harmony between the people and the waiter, so it’s very good.

The selections of food that are put up are brilliant, with a huge array of salads, rice, curry, potato products as well as a lot of meat preparations which will make you salivate at the sight of it. There is also a huge selection of fruits and cakes and many other sweet dishes. You can get sandwiches and tea at the coffee shop near the pier in the evening and these are also included in the all inclusive package.

Drinks also form part of the all inclusive package at the beach bar, the main bar, pool bar as well as the restaurant but the one problem is that very few drinks are included in the package and these include some cheap wines, both white and red, beer and some local spirits. The all inclusive bars remain open till 1am in the morning but if you feel like a cocktail, you will be disappointed as these bars do not provide you with those.

There is also a bartender who is assigned to you at the main bar and these people are so good and jolly that they are always smiling and arte providing the best of services at all times, and if you are a good or even decent tipper, then you will get even better service. The main bar also looks after some of the entertainment aspects of the people with something or the other happening every night.
We were spending most of our time in the first few days at the beach which is not too crowded because of the exclusivity of the resort, and after that, we got to the pool and if you arrive early, you can easily get a good place in the lounge. You can even reserve the beds of your choice by the pool just by tipping the pool boy. Get yourself a drink a lie on the beds by the side of the pool, forgetting everything else and it will be a very beautiful experience. Although the pool needs some repair, it is more or less a nice place to spend some quality time with your loved one.

The food at the other restaurants is also very good and the Italian, Chinese, Thai restaurants serve delicious food, particularly the pizza at the Italian restaurant.

The shark feeding at the Thai was also an experience to savor with firsthand experience of watching huge sharks during their lunch time, and the sting ray feeding was as great. They come up to the shore but sometimes you feel a bit scared with these creatures feeding right of your hand. You can even touch them while they are feeding.

Snorkeling is also a lot of fun, and if you want to catch glimpses of some very colorful fishes, then the water bungalows are the perfect place to go, but the water all over the island is ideal to watch good fishes. The water bungalows had fishes such as the unicorn fish, sharks and puffer fish and so many more.

Firstly, you do get scared seeing a huge shark circling underneath you but once you get used to it, it is absolutely fabulous and the water is also clear, so the view is not disturbed.

You can hire bikes for $3 a day to tour the island and it is a very good experience for everyone.  The spa treatments at the resort, with its beautiful as well as tranquil surroundings, the first class massage therapy can give you the most relaxing experience of your life. There is a Jacuzzi as well for you to relax in (and this is also part of the all inclusive package). Although we visited during the monsoon, we hardly got any rain and as a result, our honeymoon was not disrupted, and the perfect weather epitomized the perfect honeymoon for me.

It is the best holiday that I have ever had and given the opportunity, I will go back again.

We began our honeymoon in Sri Lanka and then arrived at the Sun Island Resort with the view to stay there for two weeks. We had made enquiries and had read lots of reviews and so we were aware of all the tiny glitches such as the all inclusive package expiring a couple of hours before the scheduled time of departure and as a result, we decided to have breakfast late and we had lots of food to say the least so that we would not get hungry during the time that we would have to wait before boarding the sea plane. We made a drink order exactly at 11.55am which meant that it would be included in the all inclusive package and then spent our time by playing some board games. Personally I think that the people of the resort should be more concerned in making the departure of the guests more pleasant because the way all the facilities just abruptly end at midday can leave a very bad impression on the guests.

However, we loved the place very much and would not hesitate to go back again. We would just like to give a few advises to all those of you who are looking for a place to spend a lovely honeymoon. It’s a must that you go to watch the feeding of the sting rays exactly at 9pm every night. These creatures are so awesome that they will come right up to you and take the food from your hand and also let you pat them. There is an excursion known as ‘Hello Neighbors’, which bored us a little but take some cash if you go on this because you will be able to buy some souvenirs on this trip. We had brought a lot of mosquito repellants but those were not needed except on the trip of ‘Hello Neighbors’.

The sunset fishing is one trip that you would not want to miss because this gives you the opportunity to catch fishes easily. These fishes are later barbequed and later served to you as ’fish and salad’. The dinner actually starts at 930pm and the trip ends at 7.30pm, so many people do not come for the barbeque, but the ones who do turn up get to taste the delicious fishes that were freshly caught. The chef is not associated to the main restaurant of the resort, and he will cook your meal right in front of you from the fish that you decide to choose.

It is imperative that you take your snorkeling gear along with you because along the pier just near the Italian restaurant are some great fishes to see. We just loved the super deluxe rooms and it is worth all the extra money that you are paying.  You can hire bikes for $ 3 a day and it is very nice for exploring the island and essential if you are going for the sting ray show.  In the bar, however, don’t fall under the influence of a certain bartender because he will assign himself to you and dictate what you order and things like that. Although the staffs are very good, still you might want to be careful in that aspect. The evenings can be dull but there is some sort of entertainment or other that are going on all the time except that on Saturdays, there is nothing that you can do. On the other days, there is music; dance and things like that and you can more or less pass on time with these.

The Jacuzzi was absolutely brilliant. We used to play some tennis in the evenings and after that, we used to relax in the Jacuzzi, the cool water touching and soothing our bodies and the experience was absolutely wonderful. You can get a very romantic massage for couples at the parlor, however, the towels are very skimpy and so it is better that you take your own towels there. You can also get the pizza from the restaurant delivered to your room and the pizza tasted absolutely brilliant, although it will add itself up to your bill.

You are assigned a table at the main restaurant and that will be your table for the whole duration of your stay and so you can leave things on the table easily. If you want to get the perfect view of the sunrise and the perfect spot on the beach, then you need to get up early. Wake up to the freshly made omelets that are cooked right in front of you and these are delicious.

There is a happy hour from 5.30pm to 6.30pm in the Thai restaurant and you will get the best cocktails. We used to go there when it was very quiet and have a quiet drink or two before heading out. The seven course long romantic meal is an absolute must for the honeymooners and to say that the meal is delicious would be an understatement. The calmness of the island at night can be haunting sometimes, because there is no night vibe. It’s okay to be a bit quiet as a honeymoon or holiday spot, but the quietness of the island at night is almost too eerie. We were really worried about the rainfall because we were going at a time when it usually rained but we were not bothered much as it only rained for 3 days and even those days were fun. We used to sit in the main restaurant with a few drinks, playing board games and enjoying ourselves. The waiters would get us refills when our glasses were nearing the end and so it was more or less fine.

Don’t pack too much. Just a few bathing suits and light t-shirts to wear on top of it when you are in the restaurant are enough.
There were plenty of things to do, and since there were not too many people over there, we could get things easily without having to wait in line or such. There was always a pool table or a tennis court empty for us. The entire place was very neat and clean and that was something that we absolutely loved. The staffs were very hard working and kept the place in tip-top condition.

It is the perfect place to honeymoon, the peace and quiet adding to the romantic ambience.

My husband probably made the best decision of his life when he chose to come over to the Maldives to spend our honeymoon at the Sun Island Resort, and I would not be exaggerating one bit if I say that it was the most thrilling experience for me. The place is absolutely amazing, and perhaps one of the best places on Earth that you can go for holidaying. Although it has been a few years now, I still remember clearly everything about the place. Because of the long flight time, be sure to plan a stay for at least 10 days if you want to soak in all the thrills and frills of the place.

I can still feel the taste of the brilliant breakfast dishes that are prepared there, and the French toast was absolutely fabulous. There are plenty of dishes to choose from such as breakfast cereals, omelets, fruits, toasts, any type of egg that you want prepared, and even pancakes, yogurt or muffins and also porridge. I am a very fussy eater and I absolutely loved all the food there. They even give you tea and sandwiches every evening sharp at 4:30pm. The whole place is absolutely amazing and totally spotless, especially the beach.

You will also get beauty treatments over there, and the highly professional staff at the massage parlors and salons gives you the best of treatments, which are worth every dime that you pay. The “Lobbi Lobbi” is an absolute must for all the honeymooners, although you might want to stay away from the green tea that they serve there. The powdered milk that is served there is also very tasty. The food that is served at the main restaurant is very good and you will not require venturing outside to get any food.

One thing I missed out on is the staff at the resort. They are the most adorable and nicest bunch of people that you will ever come across, and are always happy to help. Now you have learnt a lot about the place and wouldn’t want me to spoil any of the surprises that are in store for you, but I can assure you of one thing and that is you will love the place.

So, make your travel plans and enjoy because we sure did that.

Holidaying at the Sun Island Resort was part of our honeymoon, although we had not planned on coming here. The long flight to get here might be a torture because once you reach the country, there is another 45 minute flight on a sea plane to get to the resort, and so, you seriously need some sort of entertainment to keep you from being bored. Once we landed there, I realized that I could not have asked for a more beautiful location for my honeymoon than this. However, it took four extra hours for our luggage to arrive there and it was really frustrating because we had been in the same clothes for more than 24 hours already.

Staying in the deluxe villa was actually very beautiful, with the perfect air conditioning system, and a great mini bar. The room had a fantastic view of the sea and I felt that I was living in paradise. A representative from the resort took us on a guided tour of the resort and it was then that we learnt that we had two free trips, a shopping trip and another night fishing trip waiting for us and both of these free trips were fantastic and I seriously enjoyed both.

The resort offers various activities for you to indulge in with various sporting areas and spa and other facilities, and if you are wise enough, you will take full advantage of it because, guess what, it all comes for free. You only have to for the massages that you get and once you have had one massage, particularly the “Lobbi Lobbi”, you will feel that the money you spent were worth it. The rooms are cleaned twice everyday and the room boys are also wonderful. Being a honeymoon suite, we used to get decorations kept on our bed every day.

There was a vast array of foods to choose from in the kitchen and the food was more or less beautiful. However, the breakfast was a little bit disappointing for me because of the very limited choices that are offered, but the lunches and dinners used to be wonderful. I can still feel the taste of the food in my mouth. The room service was also very cheap and the vast selection of Thai, Chinese, Italian and so many other dishes make it all worthwhile. The bars were also brilliant but the one thing about the bars is that the drinks are all inclusive here and you have to stick to the package of your hotel booking. If you want something else, it will cost you a lot.

The shops also provided very good value for money and all our shopping was done from there. The one complaint that I have is that it can get very boring in the evenings if you stay for too long as there is nothing to do on the island. However, the staff and all the employees were very good and polite. In all, it is a very beautiful place and a brilliant place to spend the honeymoon.

I have been to the Sun Island Resort as many as 4 times and I have loved it every time that I have been there and so have my family. Every time it feels like a new experience just because of the deluxe service of the resort and also for the scenic beauty associated with it. I don’t understand why some people try to undermine the place, maybe they are jealous or something but if you ask me, I have loved every minute of it and so will you. So, if you are planning a holiday trip to an exotic island, then make your booking with the Sun Island Resort in the Maldives.
